The time has come for new drivers

          Drivers Ed. has begun once again. Every Monday and Wednesday during the lunch hour and fourth period, classes are being held in either Mrs. Fehr’s room or Mrs. Sharp’s room. The in-car instruction portion of the class is held every Monday and Wednesday at different times throughout the day. Make sure you check the schedule if you are taking Drivers Ed.

            One student, Becky (last name not included due to privacy reasons), says “I’m learning how to drive legally now. I knew how to drive before, but now I can actually do it legally.”  Mr. Doubt says that he feels nervous being around with all the new drivers.

           

            The learners test will be on Monday, September 27^th, during normal class time. The eye test will be held on October 6^th. The drives scheduled for the 6^th may be cancelled, but will be rescheduled for the following Monday.  Those who are already fifteen and pass both the written test, sign test, and the eye test, will then be able to receive their learner’s license. The ones that have not quite turned fifteen yet will have to wait until their birthday to get their learner’s license.           

Drivers Ed. students should make sure they remember to tell their teachers where they are going to be when driving. If they don’t, it will count as an unexcused absence and will probably end up having detention.

Many of the students taking Drivers Ed. find it stupid because they think they know everything there is to know about driving. Although they think this, many have not a clue about some of the topics. Drivers Ed. makes sure drivers are confident and have the abilities and knowledge how to drive safely and lawfully.

            Nearly all students in Hague High participate in Drivers Ed, although it is not mandatory. One may take a Drivers Ed. course outside of the school, but you must be at least sixteen and pay a lot of money. The school course is free and you can get your learners at fifteen.

            In class, many of the topics that the instructor talks about are impaired driving. Other than the basics, they highly stress not drinking and driving or driving under the influence of any drugs.
