Terminology

Conglomerate- a corporation consisting of a number of subsidiary companies or divisions in a variety of unrelated industries, usually as a result of merger or acquisition.
Ex. Viacom

Demographic- a section of the population sharing common characteristics, such as age, sex, class, etc
Ex. Teenagers
Early Adopter- the first people or person to adopt a trend or style; trend setter
Ex. ICP (Insane Clown Posse)

Coolhunting- when a person or company studies teenagers to find a new trend or lifestyle.
Ex. MTV following a "normal" teenage boy around.

The paradox of Coolhuntinghow the term "coolhunting" contradicts itself. It is contradicting, because searching for something to make "cool" is in fact uncool in itself.
Ex. When a company tries to make something "cool" and in doing that, in fact makes it uncool.

Synergy- the potential ability of individual organizations or groups to be more successful or productive as a result of a merger
Ex. Viacom throwing a Sprite dance party. (they rely on each other.)
